“We’ve identified through statistics that minorities, typically Black or African-American, have different experiences in the criminal justice system for whatever reason. Now, there’s a myriad of reasons; there’s not one single reason,†Kitchen said. He said the drug court is working to remedy that in two ways: by getting information to people currently in jail who qualify and by increasing representation.
